Welcome to Medical Associates of Boswell

Our Practice opened in July 1962, in Boswell, in a clinic built by grants and funds secured by

the Boswell Lions Club.

The Lions recruited Dr. Jan deVries to provide healthcare in their new clinic.  Eventually Dr. deVries

purchased the clinic from the Lions Club, and in October 1971, Dr. deVries also purchased the

Stoystown office to expand his practice.

By February 1981, both offices were approved as Rural Health Clinics.  This allowed Dr. deVries to

employ much needed help for his busy practice.  The concept of Physician Assistants was new to

the medical field, and Dr. deVries hired Fae Foust, an RN he had worked with at Somerset Hospital.

Together they pioneered the Physician Assistant field.  Mrs. Foust was the first Physician Assistant

in Somerset County, and may well have been the first in Pennsylvania.

The practice is now owned by Dr. Thompson, who along with Dr. Blasko and three physician assistants,

manage the healthcare of many Somerset, and some Cambria County, residents of all ages.
